to the health of
our citizens.
Hello.
I am Sail Chun, the president of the Korea Institute of Genetic Testing Evaluation (KIGTE).

Genetic testing has become a very important test for the diagnosis of not only genetic diseases, but also many diseases, including cancer. With the recent application of Precision Medicine and targeted therapies, genetic testing is becoming a key test not only for diagnosis, but also for determining treatment. Additionally, direct-to-consumer genetic tests and disease prediction tests have been introduced, with rapid expansion of genetic tests.

Recently, the Bioethics and Safety Act was revised, and the genetic testing classification system was changed from the method of testing to the purpose of testing. In addition, the evaluation method has also changed from accuracy evaluation to proficiency evaluation. The Korea Institute of Genetic Testing Evaluation has been preparing to implement proficiency evaluation?per the recently?updated law, in consultation with various related organizations, so that genetic testing institutions can conduct administrative work easily and systematically.

Accurate genetic testing is crucial for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. On the other hand, inaccurate genetic testing can lead to irreversible harm. Therefore, continuous efforts?are necessary to ensure accurate genetic testing. The Korea Institute of Genetic Testing Evaluation will do its best to support genetic testing institutions in providing reliable test results by considering aspects such as personal information protection, socio-cultural, ethical, and?legal considerations regarding genetic testing.

Thank you.
